Dubai bans high heels on Jumeirah jogging track
RTA issues new footwear guidelines to ensure track safety
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has issued a new advisory to users of the popular 7-kilometre Jumeirah jogging track, specifically banning high heels to ensure safety and preserve the track's condition.
The track, frequented by walkers and joggers, is central to Dubai’s commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles, and the RTA emphasises the importance of maintaining its quality.
In a video shared across RTA's social media platforms, officials explained that even brief use of improper footwear, such as high heels, could lead to irreversible damage to the track’s surface and increase the risk of slipping.
The RTA’s reminder underlines the significance of following the guidelines to maintain not just safety, but also the track’s integrity, benefiting the wider community of fitness enthusiasts.
Warning signs
To further enhance safety, the RTA has also installed 67 new warning signs along the track, informing users of prohibited activities and promoting responsible use. The signs urge joggers and walkers to avoid high heels, prohibit pets, skateboards, bicycles, and e-scooters, and discourage smoking and littering.
Penalties
Users who do not comply with these regulations may face penalties, with fines already in place for cycling outside designated zones and smoking in non-designated areas.
Violators of the newly implemented guidelines face fines for specific infractions, including cycling or e-scooting outside the designated areas, which carries a Dh200 fine.
Smoking in restricted zones, especially near children, can lead to fines starting at Dh500, with higher amounts applied in certain situations.
